Answer:
Causes which favoured Jainism and Buddhism were:
- Ritualistic Vedic Religion: Common people were fed up with the elaborate rituals of the yajnas. The simple religion of the early Vedic Aryans was replaced by useless rituals and complicated ceremonies. Hence they became discontented and wanted something as simple as their previous rites and rituals.
- Supremacy of the priestly class: With introduction of elaborate rites and rituals, the priestly class came to occupy a position of supremacy in society. Brahmins dominated the society. People turned against them as they made the religion complicated, expensive and burdensome.
Hope it helps you.
