1) when the Indian states were annexed large scale unemployment and economic distress was followed. When Awadh was annexed the administration was replaced by company administration and the court poets musicians artists who were dependent on Royal patronage lost their means of earning and livelihood.

2) The interest of Indian economy was sacrificed for the interests of British trade and industry which led to the utter collapse of the traditional handicraft industries in India. Nothing was done by the British to modernize and stabilize the industries. the Indian artisans and craftsmen lost their means of livelihood and were ruined.
