WHAT IS FRICTION ?

A contact force that exists between two objects which are in motion is known as Friction.

WHAT ARE CHARACTERISTICS OF FRICTION ?

Friction is both useful and harmful by the following ways :-

1. It produces heat that might harm machinery parts.

2. It causes enables contact between bodies leading to possible of walking of all.

3. It might decrease the force rate of any body.

4. It leads to contact between objects so that one can touch other like pen to book.

5. It carries away metals due to the produced heat. Rubbers also get rubbed due to it.

Therefore, in some cases it is required to reduce friction.

We can reduce Friction by following ways :-

• By applying Lubricants like - oil,grease etc. to the moving parts.

• Making the object streamlined body.

• Reducing point of contact between object. (Surface area)

• Reducing the Force Acting on the Object.

• Rolling bodies instead of sliding them.

• Making the surface of the objects smoother.
