The Treaty of Versailles was caused and set up to put an end to World War 1 between Germany and the allied nations in 1919. About 32 countries came together in Paris to hold a conference to make peace after World War 1.
It was dominated by the big 3: Britain, France, and the US. Germany, on the other hand, was not invited. The US wanted to set up the League of Nations (LON) and was not much affected by WW1 when compared to Britain and France, who wanted high reparations from Germany.
France, being in proximity to Germany, had lost large amounts of soldiers and resources during WW1 and wanted Germany to give up some land back to France and dismantle the German army so that France would always be better at times of war. Britain had lost some it’s naval resources and were also affected but in some degree lesser than France.
