Analgesic may be defined as the chemicals substances which are used for relieving pains in the body by acting on the central nervous system.These are narcotics and non-narcotics.
Difference b/w narcotics and non-narcotics
1- Narcotics( Drugs which produce sleep and unconsciousness are called narcotics):- Most of the Narcotics are opium derivatives . Opium contains alkaloids such as codeine and morphine which are highly effective analgesics.
Non-narcotics :- these are not as effective as opium derivatives in relieving pain.
2- narcotics :- these are habit forming
non-narcotics:- these are not habit forming
3- narcotics :-Morphine can be used as an analgesic to give relief from pain in case of post operative surgeries and in Cancer
non-narcotics:- aspirin which is chemically 2-acetoxybenzoic acid is a very commonly use analgesic and gives immediate relief in case of body aches.
