Secularism in India means equal treatment of all religions by the state. With the 42nd Amendment of theConstitution of India enacted in 1976, the Preamble to the Constitutionasserted that India is a secular nation. However, neither India's constitutionnor its laws define the relationship between religion and state.

Heya there r many reasons some of them are as follows-Intervention of the state within religious communities : The Constitution allows the state to intervene in the matters of religion in order to ensure equality within the different religious communities.

No official religion : There is no official religion of the Indian state. Unlike the status of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, Islam in Pakistan and Hinduism in Nepal, our Constitution does not give a special status to any religion.Cheers!!
