Tamil Nadu and Kerala are two regions in India that receive winter rainfall of the motion of low-pressure condition to the Bay of Bengal.

The causes of such rainfall include:

  • Tamil Nadu gets rain during monsoons because of the southwest monsoon winds which blow toward the northern hemisphere.
  • In winters, it receives rainfall due to the 'northeast trade winds'. They are offshore winds that blow from 'land to sea' but due to India's topography, they change direction and flow above the 'Bay of Bengal' and pick up moisture.
  • Thus when they 'blow towards the 'Tamil Nadu coast' during winter, they bring rains.
