A nagar parishad  is a form of an urban political unit in India similar to a municipality. An urban local body administers more than 15,000 populace or less than 25,000 populations, and also known as a "nagar panchayat.

The source of income of this council are Taxes on water, pilgrimage, markets, transport, etc. and fixed funding from the state government in accordance to the land revenue and currency for works and schemes allocated to the council.
