The inner layer of the ileum is lined up with the help of several finger like projections that is called villi.

The villi can increase the surface area of the overall lining that can help in the increase of the rate of absorption.

The small intestine is then lined up with the simple columnar epithelium that is ideal for the process of absorption and the nutritious are carried out by the blood.
