Material required : water, soil and a jar.
Procedure : Take a jar and fill it with water. Now, put some soil, collected from a garden, in it still the contents, and leave it aside for sometime. When the particles settle down the different layers showing the various components of soil are formed.
Observation : The bottom layer is made up of heavy particles of gravel. The layer above it consists of sand particles. Above that a layer of silt is distinctly seen , followed by a layer of turbid water. The topmost layer is of lighter particles of humus.
