Mercury is preferred to other liquids because of the following reasons:
I) it has uniform contraction and expansion.
ii) it does not stick to the wall of the thermometer.
iii) it is good conductor of heat.
iv) it has a sufficient low freezing point (-39 degree C ) and a high boiling point (357 degree C)
