It also has a high boiling point which makes it very suitable to measure higher temperatures but Mercury is a very toxic material and its a fluid metal so it is not the best to use in a clinical thermometer but since it is so packed it does not affect the body that much. In India the use of mercury in clinical thermometer was banned.
