Merits -

Even fringe players have a voice

Demerits -

Each state and region has its own local needs and demand which do not go with the national aspirations

The smaller players tend to play to the galleries in order to get the mandate and promise the moon and the stars which is not possible and finally fall flat on its face and the alliance collapses

Most of the times the popular mandate gets ignored and a small player is used as a chess pawn and given the mantle just to keep the other party out

Alliance governments are a bane in democracy and most of the times make a joke of the electorate…
