Lichens are organisms found on hard substrates and arise from photosynthetic alga or cyanobacterium that is found in a symbiotic relationship with fungi. The advantage of having the photosynthetic alga is that it performs photosynthesis and provides glucose whereas the presence of fungi helps lichens to proliferate on terrestrial habitats. The fungi and alga also get benefitted in this association with lichen as it provides shelter and protects them from predators.
