Coastal plains are extremely important they are where the sea meets the land. they are normally very fertile and provide shelter and food for young fish, birds, mammals and all other animals that use the sea. As they are shallow crisscrossed by tidal rivers the water tends to be warmer which also leads to the propogation of alge a basic block of the food chain.
They also provide protection to areas behind them from hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones, as well as winter storms.
