The nature and origin of the ringshaped structure known as embryotoxon have been the subject of extensive discussion and disagreement. Burian, Braley and Allen-0 recently stated that the embryotoxon in their opinion simply represents a "prominent anterior border ring of Schwalbe". The embryotoxon in the present case certainly is located in the area of Schwalbe's line. However, the partially separated ring with its own endothelium all around and with its connections to poorly developed trabecular structures as well as to the hypoplastic iris does not really resemble Schwalbe's ring as we know it in the normal eye
