Chapter Nelson Mandela gives the message of importance and value of freedom. Any race that is deprived of freedom raises its voice against oppressors and fights till they achieve freedom. In the chapter we read how Nelson Mandela fought for freedom of the colored people and made many sacrifices.
Nelson Mandela’s contribution in the struggle for independence of the black in South Africa was exemplary. He had to fight for their freedom for many years; he also remained in prison for many years.
After a long struggle, the light of freedom dawned in 1994. His party African National Congress (ANC) party won 252 of the 400 seats in the first democratic elections of South Africa’s history.
He was sworn in as the country’s first black President. Mandela is remembered for the great work he did for the emancipation of the colored people in South Africa. He can be termed as the Gandhi of South Africa.

Apartheid was a Political system in South Africa famous for its Racial Discrimination for many years. Nelson Mandela is the person who fought against the system for many years and became the First Black President of South Africa in 1994. He even went to Jail and spent 28 years in prison for fighting against Racial Discrimination. he was a great person and a Good Leader.
In the Chapter 2 of the lesson Nelson Mandela: Long walk to Freedom we go through the struggles he overcame in order to achieve freedom of Black people. His dream was to make the country regardless of the Racial Discrimination against Black People.In 1950 he joined in the ANC ( African National Congress ). He also played a major role in Guerrilla warfare and combat organisations against the Apartheid which were carried out secretively. He even got beaten up so many times for fighting against the government in this issue. He got caught for leaving the country without passport later on he was sentenced to severe imprisonment for Sabotage under Rivonia Trail.He went through a lot of Difficulties while he was in jail.he used to get beaten by the guards there, he was made to do hard labour and he used sleep in a tiny area which was very uncomfortable for anyone to sleep.
In 1994 ANC won with 252 seats out of 400. He played a prominent role in saving the black people against the insults, cruelty and Injustice.
