Metal chains are wrappef on tyres when they run on icy roads.why?

As ice is Slippery and there is almost less Friction , So tyers are wrapped with chain to create high Friction so that cars or trucks can easily move on them..

Because ,by doing so the frictional force will increase as there is less frictional force on icy roads. And the vehicles can hold the road firmly and it also avoid skidding
