A general property of metal oxides is that they tend to react with water to form basic solutions of the metalhydroxide. For example BaO is a basic oxide. It dissolves in water to form barium hydroxide, Ba(OH)2. ... It dissolves in water to form calcium hydroxid

Hey !
Solution :
Metal Oxides are basic in nature. This can be explained through a example.
We know that,
Acid + Base => Salt + Water
Metal Oxide = CaO
Acid = HCl
Substituting in the reaction we get,
CaO + HCl => CaCl₂ + H₂O
We know that CaCl₂ is an salt. Hence the above equation holds true for neutralization.
Hence it can be concluded that Metal Oxides are basic in nature.
Hope it helped !
