Basic In Nature.

  • Metal oxides are basic in nature because they react with water to form bases. Moreover, the oxides turn moist red litmus paper blue and blue remains blue.

Metal oxides are basic in nature. For example, Magnesium Oxide is a metallic oxide. It will be basic because on adding water to it it will become Mg(OH)2 (Magnesium Hydroxide) which is a base.

Non Metallic oxides are always acidic in nature. For example Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a non metallic oxide. On adding water to this, Carbonic acid will be formed.
