Metal oxides are basic in nature.

As, they react with acids to form a neutralisation reaction, and as we know that when acids react with bases then the reaction which occurs is a neutralisation reaction.

For example -

HCl + Na2O ----> NaCl + H2O

Here, HCl as an acid and when it reacted with a metallic oxide, neutralisation reaction took place.

So, this tells that metallic oxides are basic in nature, which when react with acids lead to a neutralisation reaction
