Answer :

the length of the rectangle is 147 m

Step-by-step explanation :

Given :

Metal wire is in the shape of a square whose side is 84 m. It is then re-bent into a rectangle of width 21 m

To find :

the length of the rectangle

Solution :

Since wire in the shape of a square is re-bent into a rectangle, their perimeter remains same.

Hence, equal the perimeter of square and rectangle we'll get the length of the rectangle.

So,

Perimeter of square = 4(side)

         = 4(84 m)

         = 336 m

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + width)

       = 2(L m + 21 m)

       = (2L + 42) m

Equal them.

Perimeter of square = Perimeter of rectangle

 336 m = (2L + 42) m

 336 = 2L + 42

 336 - 42 = 2L

  294 = 2L

    L = 294/2

    L = 147 m

Therefore, the length of the rectangle is 147 m

.: as metal wire is rebent in the shape of rectangle. so, perimeter of rectangle = perimeter of square.

let

'l' be the length of the rectangle

'b' be the breadth of the rectangle

's' be the side of the square

.:

2(l + b) = 4 \times s

.: 2(l+21m) = 4×84m

= 2l+42m = 336m

= 2l = 336m-42m

= 2l = 294m

.: l= 294m/2

= 147m
