Answer:

Metal x that exist in nature as sulphide xS and is used to galvanize iron is zinc metal.

Explanation:

Naturally existing zinc, exists in ores of ZnS underneath the Earth surface. These ores are mined and are process in four main steps so as to obtain pure zinc. The four steps are as follows:

1) Roasting

This is the step where Zinc sulphide is oxidized at high temperatures. The equation is as follows:

            2 ZnS + 3 O₂     ⇒    2 ZnO  + 2  SO₂

2) Leaching

This is the first step in the electrolysis process. The process involves the reaction of zinc oxide and sulphuric acid. The equation is as follows:

    ZnO  +  SO₃    ⇒    ZnSO₄

3) Purification

In this step, the zinc sulphate solution that is produced is purified and impurities such as copper, cadmium and cobalt are removed

4) Electrolysis

The purified zinc sulphate is then passed through a special type of electrolysis known as electrowinning. In this way zinc metal is extracted.

5) Melting and casting

The zinc cathodes from the electrolysis process are then melted in induction furnaces and cast into zinc metal ingots.

Explanation:

Galvanization : It is a process in which iron or steel is coated with zinc to prevent rusting. We are given that metal X is found in nature as its sulphide XS. ... Therefore, the metal will be zinc because zinc coating is used in galvanization of iron.
