Metals have a tendency to lose electrons. Thus when electrons are added the size of atoms decreases due to increased nuclear pull and it becomes difficult for the elements to lose electrons.
So as we move from left to right in a period in the periodic table the metallic character goes on decreasing!

METALLIC CHARACTER DECREASES ON MOVING LEFT TO RIGHT IN PERIOD BECAUSE AFTER MOVING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT IN A PERIOD NO. OF SHELLS REMAINS CONSTANT AND NO. OF ELECTRONS INCREASES. DUE TO THIS IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO JUMP ELECTRONS FROM THEIR VALENCE SHELL.
AND WE KNOW THAT METALS ARE THOSE WHICH DONATES ELECTRON EASILY.
HENCE METALLIC CHARACTER DECREASES ON MOVING LEFT TO RIGHT IN A PERIOD.
