Metal are not transparent they are opaque and they do not lack band gap because metal are used in daily lives in some or the other purposes and moreover metals are a good conductor of electricity whereas rubber objects are a bad conductor of electricity.Band gaps usually takes place when some objects are transparent.

"Metals are usually transparent because of their lack of a band gap: This given statement is false.
This is because, transparency of metals has nothing to do with the band gap. The insulation property of metals is based on band gap but transparency has no connection with it whatsoever.
Pure metals mostly appear transparent, though impure ones can appear opaque too and can reflect light rays through them.
