Ions are electrically charged particles formed when atoms lose or gain electrons. They have the same electronic structures as noble gases. 
So, Metal atoms form positive ions.

Explanation:

ions are electrically charged particles , metals have very less Valence electron i.e. only 1,2,or 3 therefore,they easily get transferred when they come in contact of other atom and makes a positive charge on them ,hence, makes positive ions.
