The group 1 metals are extermely reactive like sodium , pottasium (mainly) react vigorously with cold water . Reaction with cold water. All the alkali metals react vigorously with cold water. In each reaction, hydrogen gas is given off and the metal hydroxide is produced.

Not all the metals react with cold water.

Magnesium does not react with cold water. It reacts with hot water to form magnesium hydroxide and hydrogen.

Metals like Aluminium, Iron and zinc does not react either with cold or hot water. But they react with steam to form metal oxide and hydrogen. 3Fe + 4H2O gives rise to Fe3O4 + 4H2.

All the alkali metals react vigorously with cold water. In each reaction, hydrogen gas is given off and the metal hydroxide is produced. The speed and violence of the reaction increases as you go down the group. This shows that the reactivity of the alkali metals increases as you go down Group 1.
