metals are larger in size and the outermost electron are far from nucleus and to attain noble gases configuration they reduce electron easily while in non metal outermost electron are closer to nucleus and nuclear charge is greater and their electronegativity is greater hence therefor to attain noble gases configuration they easily gain electron
