Hi,

A meteor is a burning rock from outer space that we see across the sky. They are actually rocks but when enters into the sky, the friction due to air makes them to heat up and starts burning.  Many meteors burn up before hitting the earth, while others deflect off our atmosphere back into space.

A meteorite is a rock from outer space that was once a meteor and has fallen to the earth.

Most meteors burn up in the atmosphere, but if they survive the frictional heating and strike the surface of the Earth they are called meteorites. A meteorite is a rock we can hold in our hands, while a meteor is something we can only see with our eyes.

You can now see the connection between the definition of Meteor and Meteorite.

Hope this helps,

Good luck.

meteors are rocks in the space which enter into the earth atmosphere. the meteors which hit the surface of the earth are called meteorites.
due to huge friction rarely any meteor hits the earth. they get burned on their way.
therefore meteors are many but meteorites are few.

thank you
