Question :- Two fields have the same perimeter. one is the square of side 72 meter and another is a rectangle of length 80 meter.which plot has the greater area and by how much?
Perimeter of each same as perimeter of square.
P = 4S where S = side.
P = 4S = 4(72) = 288 m.
Area of square = (◕ᴥ◕)
S x S = 72 m x 72 m=5184 sq m.
For rectangle P = 2L + 2W so P - 2L = 2W and W = (P-2L)
Width of rectangle = W = (P-2L)... P is same as square= 288m and L=80 m (given)
W = (288-2(80)) = (128) = 64 m
Area of rectangle A = L x W = 80 m x 64 m= 5120 sq m
Area of square is larger by (5184 sq m - 5120 sq mm) = 64 sq m
