Explanation:

Experimental studies show that metformin-mediated improvements in insulin sensitivity may be associated with several mechanisms, including increased insulin receptor tyrosine kinase activity, enhanced glycogen synthesis, and an increase in the recruitment and activity of GLUT4 glucose transporters

Metformin increases the sensitivity of insulin.

More information:-

Metformin is a drug used for the treatment of type-2 diabetes, especially obese people. It is not associated with weight gain.

This actually decreases the sugar level in blood of diabetic people.  It does this by lowering the amount of sugar produced in the liver, and also increasing the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin.

Hope this helps ya'.
