A) Traditional Methods: Traditional methods of food preservation are as follows:
1) Freezing: helps to preserve wide range of food both commercially and domestically.e.g. potato waffles are stored in the freezer , but potato themselves required only a cool and dark place for storage of long time.
2) Boiling : helps to kill microbes in any liquid food. Milk and water are often boiled to kill microbes that may be present in it.
3) Pickling: helps to preserve food in an edible liquid.
Some other methods are Heating,Sugaring,Pickling etc.
B) Modern Methods: Modern methods of food preservation are as follows:
1) Pasteurization: It is a process of preservation of liquid food. Liquid food is the food which is available in liquid form For example Milk,Juices. Mostly liquid foods are preserved in Tettra Packs.
2) Vacuum Packing: Vaccum -packing stores food in vacuum environment, usually in air tight bag or bottle. It helps in protecting from bacteria and keeps it hygienic to eat. Some of example are : Nuts, Snacks, Potato Chips etc.
3) Freeze Drying: It is the process of preseving food through deep freezing. It is mostly done in Non Vegetarian food,Peas etc.
Some other methods are Artificial Food Additives, Irradiation,Pulsed electric field electroporation etc.
