4x−3y=26...(2)

Isolate x from equation (1), we get

x=3−y...(3)

Substituting the value of x in equation (2).

4(3−y)−3y=26

or,12−4y−3y=26

or,−7y=14

or,y=−2

Now for x, putting in (3)

x=3−y=3−(−2)=5

Answer : x=5 and y=−2
