The transferred DNA then gets integrated into the host cell through a process called recombination. ... Now, we will discuss here the techniques used for introduction of recombinant DNA into E.coli and other bacteria. One of the most commonly used techniqueis transformation.

Foreign genes can also be transfered directly by the following methods:,-

1. Electroporation:- It creates transients (temporary pores) in the plasma membrane to facilitate entry of foreign DNA.

2. Chemical mediated genetic transformation:- lt involves certain chemicals such as polyethylene glycol that is PEG, that help in the uptake of foreign DNA into host cells.

3. Microinjection:- In this method, introduction of foreign genes goes into animal cells with the use of micropIpetes.

4. Liposome mediatd gene transfer:- In this method DNA encloses within lipid begs. These lipid begs fused with protoplast.
