Mg+O2 gives MgO .
I have a question that in the RHS there are two oxygen atoms so why there is one atom on the right hand side when it combines with magnesium

it need 2 oxygen because monoxide cannot react With magnesium and MgO so to react it only with oxygen, to react it with oxygen 2 Mg is needed.Therfore

2MgO+O2 --- 2MgO

I think your doubt is cleared....
