(a) His average speed was 45 km/hour

(b) He have to wait for 40 minutes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Michael takes time to reach the station = 36 minutes

converting 36 minutes to hours

60 minutes = 1 hour

36 minutes = 36/60 = 0.6 hours

Part (a) :

∵ Michael travels a distance in 0.6 hours = 27 km

speed=\frac{distance}{time}

Average speed of Michael = \frac{27}{0.6}

                                            = 45 km/hour

Part (b) :

Michael leaves his house at 08:37 and travels 36 minutes.

Hence, he reaches at station = 08:37 + 00:36

                                                = 09:13

Train was due at 09:42 is 11 minutes late.

The time of arrival of train = 09:42 + 00:11 = 09:53

The time that he have to wait = 09:53 - 09:13

                                                 = 00:40 minutes

(a) His average speed was 45 km/hour

(b) He have to wait for 40 minutes.
