Step-by-step explanation:

Michael is an art elective programme student who is working on an assignment. He designs a rectangular pattern measuring 45mm by 42mm. He is required to use identical rectangular patterns to form a square. The maximum area of the square allowed is 1.6 square meters. (i) How many patterns does he need to form the smallest square? (ii) What are the dimensions of the largest square that he can form?

(a)

LCM of 45 and 42 is 2 x 3 x 3 x 5 x 7 = 630

630/45 = 14

630/42 = 15

15 x 14 = 210

(b)

sq rt of 1.6 sq m =1.264911m = 1264.911mm

1264.911/630 = 2.0077952 almost = 2

2 x 630 = 1260

1260mm = 1.26m

Ans : (a) 210 patterns; 1.26m x 1.26m.
