michael thinks of a number. he adds 2 then multiplies the result by three. the answer is the same as adding 5 to the number then multiplying by 2 what number did michael think of

Let the no. be X
According to the question-
(2+X)3 = (5+X)2
6+3x = 10+2x
X = 4

Hence the number Michael thought was 4.
