Given :- Milkha Singh covers a distance at a certain speed. Had he walked one km per hour faster he would have taken 1 hour less . But if he had two km per hour slower; he would have taken 5 hours more. Find the distance covered by him.

Answer :-

Let us assume that, initial speed of Milkha singh is S km / h and actual time taken by him is T hours.

so,

→ Actual speed * Late time = Reduced speed * (T + Late time)

→ S * 5 = 2(T + 5)

→ 5S = 2T + 10

→ 5S - 2T = 10 ------ Eqn.(1)

and,

→ Actual speed * Early time = Increased speed * (T - Early time)

→ S * 1 = 1(T - 1)

→ S = T - 1 ------ Eqn.(2)

Putting value of Eqn.(2) in Eqn.(1) ,

→ 5(T - 1) - 2T = 10

→ 5T - 2T - 5 = 10

→ 3T = 15

→ T = 5 hours.

putting value of T in Eqn.(2) ,

→ S = 5 - 1 = 4 km/h .

therefore,

→ The distance covered by him = 5 * 4 = 20 km (Ans.)
