Freedom of press or media is a principle that communicates and expresses through different media including printed and electronic media especially published materials and is considered right to be exercised freely.

Those freedom implies absence of interference from an overreaching state and its preservation is sought through constitutional/legal protections.

With respect to governmental information any government can distinguish which materials are public/protected from disclosure to  public.

State materials are protected either of two reasons: Classification of information as sensitive, classified/secret, similarity of  information for protecting national interest.

Many governments are subject to freedom of information legislation that are used to explain the national interest
