This was quoted by Plutarch. It means our mind is not a receiver or a bottle to be filled with ideas and thoughts from outside world. Our mind has to find knowledge on it's own not copy or get knowledge from someone.

We have to ignite our own mentality and intellect. Our mind can be compared to a log of wood. A little kindling is needed to set our mind in flames , for the quest of knowledge .....
