Answer:

ADVENT OF EUROPEANS: The commercial contacts between India and Europe were very old via the land route either through the Oxus Valley or Syria or Egypt . But , the new sea route via the Cape of Good Hope was discovered by Vasco da Gama in 1498 .

Explanation:

In the ancient and middle ages, numerous European nations traded extensively with India. Not only British people immigrated and lived in India, but the Portuguese as well thanks to their advancements in navigation.

1. The first direct sea route to India was discovered by the Portuguese. On May 20, 1498 A.D., Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama arrived at Calicut, a significant seaport in South-West India. He was welcomed by King Zamorin, who also granted him special rights. Vasco da Gama spent three months in India before returning to Europe with a valuable cargo that he sold there for an astronomical sum—60 times what it had cost him to travel there.

2. The Dutch are the inhabitants of Holland (the modern Netherlands). The Dutch were the second group to arrive in India after the Portuguese. The Dutch have a long history of being marine commerce experts. The Dutch government authorised trade in the East Indies, including India, for the United East India Company of the Netherlands in 1602.

3. The last European people to arrive in India were the French. The French East India Company was formed in 1664 AD during the reign of King Louis XIV to trade with India. In 1668 AD the French established their first factory at Surat and in 1669 AD established another French factory at Masaulipatam. In 1673 AD the Mughal Subedar of Bengal allowed the French to set up a township at Chandernagore.

4. Portuguese traders made a fortune by selling their goods in India, which led to the arrival of the British and the founding of the British East India Company. A group of English businessmen known as "Merchant Adventurers" founded the East India Company in 1599 AD after being inspired by the Portuguese people's commercial success tales. On December 31st, 1600 A.D., Queen Elizabeth I granted the Company a royal charter allowing it to conduct business in the East. The Queen owned shares of the East India Company.
