Explanation:

The “mini” computers are old things, coming from the days of mainframes. A mini was effectively a smaller mainframe, instead of an entire building it was about the size of a refrigerator. Usually these mini’s were much less capable than their big sisters the mainframes, especially if created in the same time / technology evolution.

A workstation however, comes from the micro-computer world. I.e. a personal computer (like a desktop) but classed higher with better specs. I.e. a more powerful version for the normal micro computer. Usually they’re slightly larger than the normal PC, because some of their components may be larger, or more properly need better cooling.

We still get workstations because we still use personal computers. But we no longer call things mini’s since we no longer use mainframes (or at least we no longer make them). The closest match to such would be a rack-mount server, though already such would outclass any mainframe of previous generations. If you see some huge room dedicated to just computers in racks, that room tends to house many 10s to 1000s of computers - things like huge data centres or clusters of computers. A mainframe was just one single computer, taking up an entire building / large room.
