Answer:

The angle of minimum deviation for the given equilateral glass prism( Dm) = 30°

Angle of the equilateral prism (A) = 60°

Refractive index n of the prism=Sin[(A+ Dm)/2]/ Sin A/2

n = Sin[(60°+30°)/2]/Sin 60°/2 = Sin 45°/Sin 30° = [(1/√2)/(1/2)]= 2/√2 = √2.

n = velocity of light in vaccum (air)/ velocity of light in glass

Velocity of light in glass= ( velocity of light in vaccum)/n = 3×10^8 m/s / √2= 2.12×10^8 m/s.
