mit : 150 words) 10 Or, Write a precis of the following passage. Add a suitable title.
If we go through the history of human civilization we shall see that the noblest deeds that have been done, the noblest literatures that have been written, the noblest inventions and discoveries that have been made on earth, have not been done for gold. It was not for the sake of gold that Jesus Christ of Hazrat Mohammad or Lord Krishna preached the good news in all lands. The Spartans looked for no reward in money when they fought and died in Thermophylae, and Socrates, the wise, asked for no pay from his countrymen but lived poor and barefooted all his days only caring to make men sound. And there are heroes in our days also who do noble deeds but not for gold. There is a better thing on earth than gold or silver, a better thing than life itself, and that is to do something before you breathe your last for which men may honour you and God smile upon your work.

Answer:

Title – Money should not be the goal of life

It is not for money that the noblest deeds have been done by great men. Jesus, Socrates, the Spartans, the explorers, and the nurses in hospitals served mankind purely for the sake of service

Explanation:

Precis Message:

  • The most noble deeds performed on earth have never been done for gold. Our Lord did not come to earth or die for the sake of gold, and the apostles did not travel the world to preach the gospel. While the Spartans did not seek financial compensation for their sacrifices at Thermopylae, the wise Socrates did. Instead, the wise man lived a life of poverty and bare footedness, caring only about improving the character of others. In addition, there are heroes today who perform heroic deeds without receiving payment.
  • The ladies who went out to work in the hospitals of the East, making themselves poor so they could be rich in noble works, did not go out to make themselves rich when they sailed out one after another into the gloomy, frozen seas, nor did young men go out to fight in the war, leaving wealth and comfort and a pleasant home, to face hunger and thirst, wounds and death, so they might fend off death.
  • Children, wealth is not the best thing in the world. The best thing in the world is to have accomplished something before you pass away so that good people will honor you and God your Father will be pleased with your work.
