i) Mitochondria are important cell organelles involved in aerobic respiration.

ii) Mitochondria is a double membrane organelle outer membrane which is permeable to various metabolites due to presence of porins / parson's particles.

iii) Inner membrane shows finger like folds called cristae carrying F1-F0 particles.

iv) Each particle consists of head and stalk. Head acts as an enzyme ATP Synthase and foot / stalk as proton channel,

v) Mitochondria hence functions for continuous ATP synthesis and proton pumping during cellular respiration. That is why it is called as powerhouse of cell for production of ATP - which is the energy currency of the cell.
