Mitosis:-

  1. It occurs in the somatic (body cell).
  2. It provides growth and replacement.
  3. Number of daughter cells produced are 2.
  4. Full set of chromosomes are passed on each daughter cell.This is the diploid (2n) number of chromosomes.
  5. There will be single nuclear division after chromosome duplicate.
  6. It continuously throughout the life.

Meiosis:-

  1. It occurs in reproductive cells.
  2. They are only for gamete formation.
  3. Number of daughter cells produced are 4.
  4. The half the number of chromosomes is passed on each daughter cell.
  5. There are 2 nuclear divisions after chromosomes duplication.
  6. They are only occurs in reproductively active age.
