Sodium is a metal that is placed in kerosene oil.

• Sodium is significantly a reactive metal.  

• It is kept in kerosene to avoid it from encountering oxygen and moisture.

•  If it is not kept in kerosene oil, it will react with the moisture which is present in air and form sodium hydroxide which is an extremely exothermic reaction.
