Mixture

A mixture consists of molecules of two or more substances ( elements, compounds or both ) in any proportion such that they don't undergo a Chemical Change.

A mixture can occur as a Solution. A solution is formed when one constituent dissolves in another constituent.

Types of Mixtures

Mixtures are of two types :

  1. Homogeneous Mixture
  2. Heterogeneous Mixture

✴️ Homogeneous Mixture - A homogeneous mixture has uniform constituents and properties throughout .

Example : Sugar / Salt in Water .

  • A Homogeneous Solid Mixture of two or more metals or metals and non metals is called an Alloy .

✴️ Heterogeneous Mixture - A heterogeneous mixture doesn't have uniform constituents and properties throughout.

Example : Muddy Water.

• A Suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which small Solid particles are suspended in a liquid.

Example : Chalk Powder in Water.

• A Emulsion is a heterogeneous mixture that of particles of one liquid dispersed ( not dissolved ) in another liquid.

Example : Milk
