A simple, non-flowering, and typically aquatic plant of a large group that includes the seaweeds and many single-celled forms. Algae contain chlorophyll but lack true stems, roots, leaves, and vascular tissue.

The mode of nutrition in algae is autotrophic.

In other words, they are called the self feeders. They are the aquatic origins but are composed of chlorophyll which on account of light and air prepares its own food. Some algae however are heterotrophic in nature and feed on other beings.
